A traditional British Dessert
Treacle is a syrup made in the refining of sugar cane.
It is made using shortcrust pastry, with a filling made out of golden syrup - also known as light treacle - a little lemon, butter, and breadcrumbs. The tart is normally served hot or warm with a dollop of clotted cream, ordinary cream, ice cream or custard. Some recent recipes add cream or eggs to make a softer filling.
